Weekend trip Part B: A day trip to Anglesey, Wales

Welcome back! Following our rendezvous with the sea in the beautiful city of Llandudno on Saturday, the next day we set out at about 10am from our home and reached Llandwyn island located in Anglesey at about 12:30pm. It took us a little longer to reach here as it’s a little far from Manchester compared to Llandudno. Llanddwyn is not quite an island because it is attached to the mainland at all but the highest tides. It provides excellent views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula and is part of the Newborough Warren National Nature Reserve. Once at the parking lot, you need to get ready to make your way up to the Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse. I would strongly advise  carrying your sunglasses and wearing comfortable shoes as it's quite a long trek to the point. Frequently Asked Questions when planning a trip to Paris

Blogger`s Speak:

In this post related to travel in Paris, we have tried to put together some common queries that one might have.
In case we have not been able to provide an answer for some queries that you may have, feel free to put in your queries in the comment section at the end of the post.
We will try and get back to you with an answer to them as soon as possible.

1.Staying in Paris

We had stayed in the Ibis Budget Paris Porte d'Italie Ouest
the stay for 4 days and 3 nights cost us 150 Euros.

When you are deciding upon a hotel it is good to pay heed to the following things:

a. The location of the hotel.

The one at which we had stayed was at a 10 minutes walking distance from the Metro station, Tram and Bus stop and this aided us a lot in commuting to the various tourist destinations.

Metro station closest to our hotel: Porte D'Italie

b. Restaurants and Markets:

While most hotels will have a restaurant of their own, it is always better to stay in a place where if the need arises you can eat at other joints. Also if you have a supermarket or store nearby it will also come in handy if the need arises.
There were a number of good restaurants nearby the metro station which was located near our hotel, we usually took our dinner and breakfast from these places. There was also a superstore located nearby from which we bought sandwiches and water. This superstore used to remain open well into the late night.
If you have kids traveling with you, then these services can come in real handy.

2. Traveling

We made extensive use of the various public transports that are available across Paris. From personal experience, we can say that in city tours availing public transport can be both cost-effective as well as help you in understanding the city and its way of life better.

Travel Checks: We had an early morning flight back to Manchester (6 AM).In the non-availability of public transport options so early we had to take a  cab to the airport. The fare came to 53 Euros from our hotel. We had used an Uber. The cabs are quite costly in Paris.

3. Communication

One of the greatest challenges that one may face when traveling to a country that does not speak a language similar to oneself is Communication. Paris was no different in this case for us. While most people in Paris understand and speak English, sometimes you may have to put in a little extra effort to be able to put your queries or words across to the other person.
Like for us, we had a tough time trying to figure out how to decipher whether the sandwich we wanted to buy was a chicken one or had prawns in them as I am highly allergic to prawns!
Lastly, we googled the words that were displayed on the pack of the sandwich. Thus we learned that Roti means sandwich and Poulet means Chicken! Tada!! ;)

It is good to learn the basic greetings used in day-to-day communication like Bonjour (hello) and Merci (Thank you) before you land in Paris. We observed people use these two words very often while conversing with each other.
Also, Sortie means Exit. So by the time you exit Paris, your french skills will become better! ;)

4. Food and Water

When in Paris it is almost mandatory to try out the authentic french cuisines. We both are anyways big fans of Pizzas and Pasta. While on our trip, one afternoon we ate lunch at a beautiful restaurant in the village of Montmartre, near Sacre Coeur. The food was super delicious! You can also try your luck with the french bakeries. Their croissants are wonderful amongst the other delicacies.

Travel Checks: If you are a vegetarian, you might find it difficult at times to find the food or dish of your choice, so we would advise, keep packed food like sandwiches, energy bars, fruits, etc. handy especially, if you have young kids with you who are vegetarians.

Most western countries drink tap water, Paris is no different. However, you can choose to buy bottled water from the local shops, they are easily available in different volumes and packaging.

5. Weather

We had visited Paris in the month of October. The weather was good. If you are traveling to Europe from the UK or the US then you will find the temperatures to be pleasant. However, if you are traveling from India, be ready to feel the chill. We strongly suggest that you carry at least a few proper winter clothes with you, such as a good coat, muffler, caps, and stuff. Keep an umbrella handy if you can, as it rains sometimes.

6. Currency

In case you are traveling to Paris from the UK try to use your Revolut or Monzo cards, they allow you to pay in the European currency (Euro) directly without incurring extra charges.
(Caution: Always pay via the national currency. That is pay in Euros when the card asks you to choose payment option on swiping it).
